Why We Built Ezra: The Problem With Home Services in Israel and the Platform We're Creating to Fix It

Every startup begins with a frustration. Ours started with a question too many Israelis ask: why is it this hard to find someone you can trust?

Every startup begins with a frustration. Ours started with a question that too many Israelis ask themselves every time something breaks, needs cleaning, or needs fixing: why is it this hard to find someone you can actually trust?

The Frustration That Started Everything — The home services market in Israel has a problem. It's not that there aren't good professionals — there are thousands of skilled, hardworking tradespeople, cleaners, movers, and specialists across the country. The problem is that there's no reliable way to find them. No trusted directory. No verified reviews. No easy way to know whether the person showing up is qualified, fairly priced, or even going to show up at all.

The existing options — WhatsApp groups, Facebook posts, neighborhood recommendations, outdated directories — were never built to solve this problem. They've become workarounds that Israelis have adapted to, but they're not solutions. They're informal, unreliable, and they leave every homeowner taking a risk every single time they need help.

What We Learned About the Problem — Before building anything, we spent time understanding the problem in depth. We talked to homeowners in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, and central Israel about how they find home help today. We heard the same things repeatedly: the unreliability, the opacity around pricing, the difficulty of vetting professionals, and the complete lack of accountability when something goes wrong.

We also talked to professionals. Many skilled tradespeople struggle to grow their businesses because there's no trusted platform that lets them build a reputation based on quality. They rely on word of mouth and repeat customers, which limits their growth. Good professionals want to be found. Homeowners want to find them. The infrastructure to connect them reliably simply didn't exist.

The Platform We're Building — Ezra is a marketplace for home services in Israel, built on the principle that trust has to be the foundation of everything. Every professional who joins goes through a vetting process. Reviews are real and verified. Pricing is transparent before you commit. The experience is designed to be as simple as possible — describe what you need, get matched, browse profiles, check ratings, choose, book. It should take minutes, not hours.

For professionals, Ezra provides something that hasn't existed in Israel before: a platform where quality drives success. Build a strong reputation, get more jobs. Show up reliably, get rated well, grow your business. Ezra is designed to reward professionals who do great work — and to hold everyone accountable.

Why Israel Specifically — Ezra is built for the Israeli market — not adapted from a generic international template, but designed from the ground up for how Israelis communicate, hire, and use technology. The platform works in Hebrew and English. The professionals are local. The service categories are the ones Israelis actually need most.

What's Next — Ezra is launching soon across central Israel, starting with the full range of core home service categories: plumbing, electrical, cleaning, air conditioning, moving, painting, handyman, and more. Our goal is to become the most trusted place in Israel to find home help.
